It is with great sadness that Flick Gocke Schaumburg announces the death of its long-standing partner Prof. Hubertus Baumhoff, who passed away aged 69 on 5 January 2024.

Prof. Baumhoff had been a partner in the firm for almost three decades. His expertise and passion for international tax law, combined with his many years of involvement in management, were instrumental in the growing success of Flick Gocke Schaumburg.

International transfer pricing was of particular interest to him. He dedicated numerous publications to the subject, which became closely associated with his name – thanks not least to his co-editorship of the transfer pricing handbook for international affiliated companies (‘Verrechnungspreise international verbundener Unternehmen’) and the Flick/Wassermeyer/Baumhoff/Schönfeld commentary on the taxation of international transactions.

Prof. Baumhoff was born in Welschen-Ennest on 31 October 1954. He studied business administration at the University of Münster and gained a doctorate at the (now) Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg on the basis of his research on transfer prices for services. In November 1986 he joined Flick Gocke Schaumburg (then Dr. Flick & Partner), where he spent his entire career. He qualified as a tax advisor in 1987. Four years later, in 1991, he became an auditor and was also made a partner in the firm.

“Prof. Baumhoff was an exceptional advisor,” remembers Prof. Matthias Rogall, managing partner of Flick Gocke Schaumburg. “He not only provided his clients with astute legal advice; he was also a professional and personal role model for the people who worked for and with him.”

The partners and employees at Flick Gocke Schaumburg will remember Hubertus Baumhoff with great gratitude for his immense contribution to the firm.
