The first compilation of tax and business law articles written exclusively by female authors has just been published by Otto-Schmidt-Verlag. Weighing in at over 600 pages, “frauen@fgs – Vielfalt in der Steuerzentrierten Rechtsberatung” (women@fgs – Diversity in tax-focused legal advice) was written by 49 female lawyers and tax advisors from all practice areas and offices of the tax law firm Flick Gocke Schaumburg and testifies to their wide-ranging and in-depth expertise.

The compendium brings together articles on current business-related issues under the heading of tax-focused legal advice. “Our female lawyers and tax advisors have set a new milestone with this publication,” states Prof. Thomas Rödder, Chairman of Flick Gocke Schaumburg. “That makes us proud. Our firm builds on academic scholarship, an approach that the contributors to this compilation follow with confidence. Their perspectives and excellence are integral to our practice. We hope the publication will encourage a stronger female presence and influence throughout our firm in the long term.”

Associated partners Dr. Susann Karnath, Dr. Christina Hildebrand and Judith Mehren were the main organizers of the ambitious project, overseeing every stage from brainstorming in summer 2019 to publication. They are proud of the result. “Our initiative aims to further improve the visibility and career prospects of women at Flick Gocke Schaumburg,” they report. “We are delighted that it has received such strong support from the firm. This sends out an important signal not only to our clients and colleagues, but also in encouraging applications from female candidates.”

The “frauen@fgs” initiative was established in 2014 to enhance professional networking between female professionals, make working conditions for women in the firm more attractive, and improve their career opportunities. It focuses on four main areas: balancing work and family commitments, increasing networking opportunities for women within and outside the firm, appointing in-house ombudspersons, and improvements in communications and transparency. The initiative is supported by an in-house committee, which, in addition to Prof. Rödder, also includes partners Dr. Barbara Fleckenstein-Weiland, Prof. Michael Hendricks, Dr. Markus Greinert and Dr. Michael Puls.
