Flick Gocke Schaumburg still ahead of the pack in many disciplines – named no. 1 firm for  succession/private wealth/foundations, and criminal tax law

04.11.2024 | Latest news

Flick Gocke Schaumburg (FGS) still tops the ranking of leading law firms in the JUVE Handbook of Commercial Law Firms 2024/2025, receiving five stars in both succession/private wealth/foundations and criminal tax law. FGS has occupied a leading position in the German legal market for many years.

JUVE publishes a separate handbook for tax law, the focus of Flick Gocke Schaumburg’s legal advice. The firm tops the rankings in this field every year.

JUVE has once again awarded the law firm three stars each in corporate law, M&A and venture capital.

The handbook names Dr Bettina Wirth-Duncan as “Rising star of the year” in the M&A advisory field.

As in previous years, Flick Gocke Schaumburg is firmly established among the leading law firms with three stars in the national Top 50 overview. JUVE states:

“A tax-centred law firm, which is a leader in group tax advice, non-profit and criminal tax law, in addition to enormous legal breadth," it says. "FGS maintains good contacts with high-net-worth German entrepreneurial families, in the SME sector and on the DAX.”

Explaining the leading position of Flick Gocke Schaumburg in succession/private wealth/foundations, JUVE notes:

“FGS's practice places it at the top of the market, both in terms of team strength and experience with quality mandates and the firm’s internal range of services in neighbouring tax law." It continues, "Many competitors describe the practice group as ‘very present in the market’ and numerous mandates demonstrate a leading position in advising foundations, non-profit institutions and non-profit organisations. (...) This has created stability and reliability for clients across generations, which high-net-worth families value. With its long-standing relationships abroad, the tax-centred German law firm is also able to participate in the increasing number of cross-border mandates in succession planning and thus participate in new trends. (…)”

As in previous years, the handbook recognises Prof. Frank Hannes, Dr. Christian von Oertzen and Prof. Andreas Söffing as “leading advisors to entrepreneurs” and Prof. Stephan Schauhoff as a “leading advisor on foundations” in the succession/private wealth/foundations category.

In the criminal tax law category, JUVE notes:

“The criminal tax law team around Randt and Schauf has been a market leader for many years, both due to its sheer size and the breadth of its practice. This is also possible because FGS is considered almost unassailable in tax law and both areas readily complement each other where necessary. It is therefore no wonder that enterprises from all sectors as well as individuals – often high net worth individuals – are among our regular clients. (…)”

In addition, FGS continues to occupy a leading position in many areas of law. The handbook mentions a large number of partners who, according to JUVE research, are “frequently recommended” by clients:
