We hope you can join us for the next session of our event series “Global mobility – A legal & tax journey for private clients” on 17 March 2025. This comprehensive series is particularly tailored to the needs and interests of family-owned businesses and private clients.
In this session we’ll be examining the legal and tax frameworks for relocating to Canada.
Canada has recently increased its effective tax rate on capital gains, introduced mandatory comprehensive reporting of certain tax-motivated transactions, and expanded its general anti-avoidance rule. These changes, coupled with a closer tax audit focus on high-net-worth individuals, makes careful planning crucial.
We will provide an introduction to this and highlight the tax implications associated with relocating to Canada from the German and Canadian perspectives. We will also focus on individual legal issues relating to wealth and succession planning. The event will be rounded off with some practical aspects of becoming (and ceasing to be) tax resident in Canada.
